Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 197 of the Local Government Act 1999 and in accordance with Council’s Community Engagement (Public Consultation) Policy that the City of Burnside has prepared proposed Management Plans for land that is owned by Council.

All local government land is defined as being Community Land subject, however, to whether Council excluded the land from classification in accordance with Section 193(1) of the Local Government Act 1999. Community Land is recognised as an important component of the urban environment, providing opportunities for recreation and leisure.

In accordance with Section 196 of the Local Government Act 1999, Council has existing Community Land Management Plans. A CLMP is a document prepared in consultation with the community that provides direction about the use of (Council owned or managed) Community Land. It identifies Community Land, the purpose for which it is held and dictates how the Council manages the land to which it relates. CLMPs provide a means to control future use, development and maintenance of that land. They aim to balance the unique site conditions with community requirements for open space recreation opportunities and facilities.

The existing CLMPs have been reviewed to ensure that each document is legislatively compliant and reflect Council’s current Policies, management practices, requirements and intentions as to the Community Land which they relate. They are now presented to the community for comment. Following the community engagement process, it is envisaged that the revised CLMPs will be presented to Council for formal adoption in August 2016. Once adopted, Council must manage the land in accordance with the relevant Management Plan for that site.

The CLMPs affect the following:

· Neighbourhood Parks

· Pocket Parks

· Local Sports and Recreation Areas

· Tusmore Park

· Hazelwood Park

· Kensington Gardens Reserve

· Kensington Park Reserve

· Special Feature Reserves

· Hills Face Reserves

· Walkways and Screening Reserves

· Community Centres

· Magill Cemetery

· Kindergartens

· Car Parks

· Drainage Reserves

The proposed CLMPs will be on public exhibition from Wednesday 29 June until Wednesday 20 July 2016 and may be viewed at the Civic Centre, 401 Greenhill Road, Tusmore, Council’s website at www.burnside.sa.gov.au or on engage.burnside at engage.burnside.sa.gov.au.

Written submissions on the proposal should be sent to the Chief Executive Officer, City of Burnside, PO Box 9, Glenside SA 5065 and received no later than 5 pm Wednesday 20 July 2016. Council will consider all submissions relating to this community engagement received by the due date. Persons making a submission should indicate whether they wish to address Council by way of a deputation in support of their submission. We will advise those who have made submissions of the date on which the proposal will be considered by Council.

For more information, please contact Acting Manager Open Space, Recreation and Property, John Draper on 8366 4200 or jdraper@burnside.sa.gov.au or by visiting the City of Burnside during business hours.
