Update

The Rose Park and Toorak Gardens Bike Route engagement closed 12 February 2014. Council invited local residents, as well as current and potential bike route users near Alexandra Avenue, Hewitt Avenue and Watson Avenue area to have their say on the possible new routes.
Council considered a report in March 2013 on the issue of a proposed bicycle route initially intended for Alexandra Avenue through Toorak Gardens and Rose Park. Following the preliminary engagement, two other approaches were also explored with the community and the Rose Park Primary School.
After considering the engagement feedback and the report, Council endorsed not a specific route, but rather several minor projects throughout Toorak Gardens and Rose Park. These projects focused on several routes on quiet local roads that are safer and more attractive to less confident cyclists.
Administration sought quotes for the works, and from that process, selected four of the endorsed projects. These included:

  • A bicycle box on Stuart Road at Greenhill Road;
  • A bicycle box on Prescott Terrace at Kensington Road;
  • A kerb ramp and median storage on Gurney Road near Grant Ave;
  • Enhancing the presence of the pedestrian crossing on Grant Avenue near the Rose Park School.

These projects were completed in the 2013/14 financial year and relate to the Be the Future of Burnside Strategic Community Plan 2012-2025, “an effective transport network that supports safe and efficient movement, connecting people and places.”
