Update

The Asset Management Plans engagement was open for community feedback from 22 September to 21 October 2016. Over 800 responses were received throughout this period.

Key feedback from the consultation included a high level of satisfaction (97 per cent) in relation to the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of council buildings; and 68 per cent felt more could be done to improve the accessibility of our buildings.

Footpaths generally rated well although 31 per cent said that more could be done to make them safer.

80 – 90 per cent of respondents said our roads are well maintained, clean, accessible and safe.

Overall there was general satisfaction that our stormwater system allows use of paths and roads in heavy rain (87 per cent). There was some concern (23 per cent) regarding the stormwater system protecting properties from flooding.

The majority of the respondents (92-96 per cent) said our street furniture is well maintained, clean, accessible and safe; and 75 per cent were satisfied with the lighting of footpaths and roads.

Our Library was rated as the most frequently visited council building, with 41 per cent of respondents saying they visited at least monthly.

Three main areas of concern were raised and Council’s response to these comprises:

· An audit of all of Council owned buildings scheduled to occur this year to identify accessibility issues. Issues raised can be included in Council’s schedule of works to progressively address any gaps.

· As a full review of our approach to renewing footpaths was recently undertaken, there is now a systematic, priority-based approach to addressing footpath defects in place. These changes should assist in improving the overall quality of our footpaths.

· A recently completed stormwater capacity study for our entire Council area to identify key areas for flooding. This information will be used to develop our future program of works to improving drainage infrastructure. The stormwater issues raised in relation to recent flooding events are also currently being evaluated and prioritised.

All four Asset Management Plans have now undergone a full review and were endorsed by Council on 8 November 2016. The updated documents are available on our website, www.burnside.sa.gov.au
