Update
The City of Burnside’s Volunteer Strategy 2012-2020 was developed to accommodate emerging trends in volunteerism. The Strategy’s Vision is that, “the City of Burnside recognises the enduring social, cultural and economic value of volunteerism with well-managed and well-resourced volunteer programs that engage the community, stimulate diversity in participation and support the delivery of progressive and sustainable services to the community.”
The City of Burnside currently has 427 active volunteers and more than half of them are 65 years and older. The main motivator for volunteering is ‘to be involved in the community.’ Volunteering gives the opportunity to contribute, make new friends and learn new skills.
The Baby Boomer Volunteer Survey engagement closed on 9 September 2013 and a three year Action Plan, Baby Boomer Volunteer Program 2014-2020, has since been developed to guide the initial implementation of the Strategy.
The City of Burnside has volunteering opportunities, and is looking to create new programs in the near future with the guidance of the Strategy and Action Plan.
