** UPDATE 21 June 2022 **

What is happening?

A new fully accessible, automated public toilet facility is to be installed in Brock Reserve. Work on-site will involve preparing the site, installing a pre-fabricated toilet structure, connection of services, paving, and additional tree plantings.

When will this happen?

Works are expected to commence in August 2022, and are expected to be completed within three to four weeks.

How will this impact me?

During the works there will be vehicles, machinery and workers on and around the reserve. There may be footpath closures for short periods while the works are underway.

There will be some unavoidable noise associated with this work, however all reasonable and practical measures will be taken to minimise disturbance.

Construction hours will be between 7 am and 5 pm.

** UPDATE 26 October 2021 **

Outcome

The results of the community engagement process were provided to Council at its meeting on 12 October 2021. At this meeting Council resolved to proceed with installing a single public toilet facility in Brock Reserve, and to provide further communication to local residents with respect to amenity, safety and planned maintenance of the new facility, which is the purpose of this update.

Amenity

A single, fully accessible toilet facility is proposed, with a building footprint of around 3500mm wide x 2400mm deep. The facility will be designed to be in keeping with the natural environment, and additional plantings will be considered to help provide an additional buffer between the residences on the western side of the reserve and the facility. As Council will tender this work, the exact design and appearance will not be known until the tender process has been completed.

Location

A number of potential locations were explored, however the proposed location was selected as it is close to the Dashwood Road footpath, away from nearby houses, is visible and accessible, is close to required services (sewer, water, power), and will not require the loss of existing established trees.

Safety

In order to discourage anti-social behaviour, the facility will be automatically locking, and only available during daylight hours. The location of the facility on Dashwood Road will also assist in deterring inappropriate behaviour.

Maintenance

Maintenance of the new facility will be consistent with Council’s management of other public toilet facilities, with a regular cleaning program and a proactive and reactive maintenance response program.

Next Steps

Council will now commence preparing documentation for this project with a view to tendering works late 2021 / early 2022. It is envisaged construction will occur in early-mid 2022. Further details will be provided to local residents in due course.

If you have any further questions or would like to discuss this project further, please email burnside@burnside.sa.gov.au or phone 08 8366 4200.

Background

The City of Burnside is proposing to install a single public toilet facility in Brock Reserve, Beaumont. Council is seeking feedback from local residents and users of the area to see if there is support for this proposal.

Brock Reserve is the main entry point to Mount Osmond Reserve and a number of popular walking and cycling trails, which have become increasingly popular over the past few years. There are no public toilet facilities in the near vicinity. Given the high number of people using this area, and following a request from some users, it is proposed to install a single toilet facility in Brock Reserve.

Proposal

A single, fully accessible toilet facility is proposed to be installed in Brock Reserve, with a building footprint of around 3500mm wide x 2400mm deep.

A number of potential locations were explored, however the proposed location is suggested as it is close to the Dashwood Road footpath, away from nearby houses, is visible and accessible, is close to required services (sewer, water, power), and will not require the loss of existing established trees. The facility would be designed to be in keeping with the natural environment and only available during daylight hours.
