The City of Burnside is seeking community feedback on the potential installation of street lighting in Coach Road and Bishop Street, Skye.

Proposal

A proposed design for street lighting along Coach Road (from Verdelho Street) and Bishop Street has been

prepared, compliant with the Australian Standard for street lighting AS1158.

In order to comply with this standard, a large number of new lights will be required to be attached to existing stobie poles, in addition to some new light poles. A map showing the proposed lighting that would be required is shown below.

It is expected the cost to implement this lighting would be in the order of $165,000.

An alternative, and consistent with what is undertaken in some rural or semi-rural areas, is to install street lighting at intersections only. This approach can significantly improve road safety at a reduced cost and reduced night time visual impact.

Give feedback

Council is seeking community feedback before making a decision on whether to install new street lighting in Coach Road.

Council welcomes your feedback. Complete the survey below by 5 pm Friday 9 December 2022.

What happens next?

This proposal will be considered by Council following completion of this community consultation to make a final determination. Please note, localised street lighting will be installed in conjunction with the installation of three Driveway Links as advised recently.

A further letter will be posted to residents to advise of the outcome of this engagement.
