Your feedback
Preamble
In 2021, Council sought feedback from our residential and business community to inform the development of a draft Burnside City Master Plan. This draft Plan provides a framework for the strategic management of population growth, housing and transport over the next 10 to 20 years. The draft City Master Plan seeks to balance the increasing demand for new housing with the protection of the character, heritage and natural environment our residents love, as well as linking urban form with transport improvements to deliver a prosperous city with a healthy, safe, connected and active community.
The draft Plan, subject to consultation, is intended to be the first iteration of the City Master Plan, with an initial focus on urban form and transport and traffic management. Subsequent iterations of the City Master Plan, introduced over a number of years, will introduce additional layers such as:
- Environmental value;
- Open space;
- Economic development and activity;
- Social, community and cultural planning; and
- Community hubs and recreational activities.
Council is keen to hear your opinion on the draft Burnside City Master Plan. Your feedback wil help us understand our community’s views on balancing preservation with sustainable growth, while accommodating improvements to transport across the City. After community consultation is completed, a summary report will be presented to Council along with any proposed changes to the City Master Plan.
Should Council adopt the final City Master Plan later in 2022, it will form the basis of future detailed investigations into changes to development zones, land use, urban form, and our transport system. This will involve further community consultation and advocacy to the State Government on future Code Amendments, improved and new bus routes, and the possible implementation of 40 km/h speed limits for selected suburbs or special precinct areas.
