At their meeting on 15 October 2024, the Council reviewed the results of this community engagement and resolved not to proceed with a Council Member Behaviour Support Policy.

Recent legislative changes to the Local Government Act, 1999, has established a Behavioural Management Framework to strengthen the behavioural standards and management processes for Council members in the performance of their official functions and duties.
The Behavioural Management Framework has three parts being:
Behavioural Standards for Council Members, set by the Minister for Local Government and applies to all Council Members in South Australia
Behavioural Management Policy, mandatory policy which each Council must have which outlines how complaints are managed and resolved
Behavioural Support Policy, which is optional.
The Framework requires all South Australian Councils to have a Behavioural Management Policy and the option for Council's to develop a Behavioural Support Policy.
The City of Burnside has determined to develop its own Behavioural Support Policy and if adopted following community consultation will be as enforceable as the Behavioural Standards for Council Members set by the Minister for Local Government.
The Behavioural Support Policy sets out the behavioural standards that the members of a Council agree to observe in relation to interactions with each other and Council staff. A copy of this policy is attached on the right hand side.
Have your say on the policy before 5 pm Monday 26 August.
