Consultation has concluded
*** UPDATE ***
At their meeting on 18 March 2025, a petition containing 374 valid signatures was presented to Council.
The petition requested that Council fund a shade cover to be installed over the George Bolton Swimming Centre playground as soon as practicable to allow this piece of equipment to be used once again.
Council reviewed the petition and resolved:
That Council:
1. Receives the Petition - Request for Shading Over Small Playground North of Pool.
2. Endorses the installation of a shade structure and associated new capital budget of $37,000 to allow the toddler's playground to be used at the start of the 2025/26 summer season.
***
The City of Burnside has closed the playground at the George Bolton Swimming Centre for the entirety of the 2024/25 swim season in the interests of community safety. With a lack of shade cover available, the play equipment can become extremely hot in direct sunlight during warmer weather, which presents a risk of burns.
To ensure the safety of our visitors, the playground will remain closed throughout this current swim season. We apologise for any inconvenience during this time.
We invite your feedback on this closure or the long-term future of the playground for the Council’s consideration. Please share your thoughts in the box below.
