Update

The City of Burnside has endorsed a trial Domestic At-Call Resource Recovery Hard Waste Service which will help Council to maintain its status as one of Australia’s best recyclers.

A twelve month trial period will commence from July 2015 where residents will be able to schedule hard rubbish collection. Waiting periods for a collection service will not exceed six weeks at any one point in time. The first at-call booked hard waste service incurs no charge to residents. A second hard waste collection will incur a nominal charge of $50 ($25 charge for concession card holders).

In developing the trial program, consideration will be given to the involvement of a not-for-profit salvage and save hard waste collection provider who will recycle or resell the items. Consideration will also be given to ensuring that residual hard waste that cannot be salvaged or saved is disposed of to an alternative fuel facility for waste to energy conversion.

Electronic waste is managed separately and can be disposed of at a range of permanent drop off centres. In addition, the Council will be hosting a one off drop off day at the Glynburn Road depot on 23 May 2015.

Administration will report on the results of the hard waste trial to Council no later than June 2016. This report will also include a recommendation on the ongoing model for hard waste collection within the City of Burnside.
