Consultation has concluded
The City of Burnside has many wonderful parks and reserves that provide beloved spaces for our community to gather, play and enjoy. Our open spaces are home to sporting clubs, playgrounds, ovals and countless recreational facilities, often all nestled alongside invaluable tree canopy and wildlife habitat.
With our community growing and changing, Council is facing rapidly increasing and sometimes competing demands on our open spaces. Many people have even told us they are missing out.
This is why we are adding an Open Space Layer to our City Master Plan.
The Open Space Layer will allow Council to holistically manage our parks and reserves and help us balance the many growing needs placed on our open spaces.
The Open Space Layer will be a game-changer that will set the direction for our parks and reserves for the next decade and beyond. It will identify gaps in our open space needs and provide recommendations to address those gaps. It will provide the basis for decisions about how our spaces and the facilities and buildings in those spaces should be shared and used. Ultimately, it will help us decide what should go where in terms of recreation, sport, and other community uses, while also balancing such considerations as the environment and Kaurna heritage.
This is massive task and we need your help.
Our parks and reserves are so intertwined in our community’s daily lives and the Open Space Layer will be so influential that it is critical you have your say.
Next steps
Your valuable feedback will be used to develop the draft Open Space Layer of the City Master Plan.
This draft document will be reviewed by Council and community feedback will be sought on the draft plan in late 2024.
