BACKGROUND:

In October 2020 the community was consulted on the development of a master plan that will provide holistic direction on the future of Penfold Park. A master plan will ensure that future maintenance and development options for the park are sensitive, planned, purposeful and complementary. It will also provide a basis for scheduling works in a financially sustainable way.

Based on feedback received, Council has developed a Draft Penfold Park Master Plan and is seeking feedback on the plan.

The following key sources were used to develop this draft plan:

  • Feedback from the earlier community consultation and open day.
  • The demographics of the City of Burnside.
  • Trends occurring nationally.
  • Maintenance requirements.
  • Council’s strategic directions.

The Draft Master Plan includes a number of new additions to Penfold Park that, if the plan is supported by the community and endorsed by Council, could be implemented over subsequent financial years:

  • Replace current playground with a new iconic park.
  • Fitness stations.
  • New shelter with picnic setting and barbecue.
  • Bollards to prevent driving on the Park.
  • Educational nature trail.
  • Replace irrigation and improved lawn.
  • Upgrade walking paths.
  • More trees, including large character species.

The priorities have been set in a staggered manner, to ensure that there is sufficient budget to accommodate these over coming years. Items will be replaced or installed in line with Asset Management Plans or when budget is allocated through the annual budget process.
