Car Park Options

Option 1: Status quo (resurface with same treatment as currently in place)

Estimated cost is approximately $75,000

Benefits: retains character as-is, minimal disturbance to trees / surrounds, quick / minimal impact to local residents and visitors. Profiling would be undertaken to direct stormwater from the car park surface toward the trees.

Risks: lost opportunity to upgrade area and improve aesthetics, more impervious area within park compared to other options.

Option 2: Replace current car park area with permeable paving

Estimated cost is approximately $750,000-$935,000

Benefits: may provide some benefit to surrounding trees by decreasing impervious area within the park, may improve the aesthetic 'look' of the car park area.

Risks: disturbance to existing trees during installation, may result in need to decrease number of parking spaces due to requirement to avoid tree roots. Car park area would be offline for some time while works were undertaken.

Option 3: Replace eastern side of car park area with permeable paving; retain western half as-is

Estimated cost is approximately $500,000

Benefits: as per option 2

Risks: as per option 2

Option 4: Replace current surface with a permeable asphalt

Estimated cost is approximately $750,000-$935,000

Benefits: retains character as-is, may provide some benefit to surrounding trees by decreasing impervious area within the park.

Risks: lost opportunity to upgrade area and improve aesthetics. Cost and effort similar to installation of permeable paving due to need to install appropriate base and drainage to support permeable system. Disturbance to existing trees during installation, may result in need to decrease number of parking spaces due to requirement to avoid tree roots. Car park area would be offline for some time while works were undertaken.
