Consultation has concluded
Project background
In late 2018, Council wrote to some residents regarding a proposal to remove 13 Cypress trees and one (1) Willow Myrtle in Dobbie Court, Leabrook. These trees have surpassed their useful life expectancy and will continue to decline in health and structural integrity. With the removal of these trees, the opportunity exists to improve the aesthetics of the streetscape and increase tree canopy coverage. Positive feedback was received from residents of Dobbie Court regarding the removal of these trees and thus tree removal and replacement will proceed as part of the 2019 planting season.
Work to be undertaken
The 14 trees will be removed by Council’s Arboriculture team in late May. Stump removal will then be undertaken in the following weeks with the intention to plant new trees in early June 2019. Once the existing trees are removed, the verge will be marked with the locations of the new plantings.
What tree species will be planted?
Three tree species are recommended as suitable replacement species for this location— each will improve the visual appeal of the street, while providing environmental benefits such as creating and enhancing canopy cover in the area and providing habitat for native fauna. For aesthetic reasons, only one species will be planted and Council is seeking feedback from residents on which species to plant. To assist in your selection, information sheets have been attached for each species. Please see the Document Library to the right of the screen.
Can I have my say?
Yes. Council is seeking your feedback on which replacement species will be planted. Please complete the survey online below. Please submit your survey by 5 pm Friday 22 February 2019.
I need more information
If you have any questions or comments regarding the proposed tree species, please contact Council’s Urban Forestry Officer, Chris Hawkins, on 8366 4200.
