In 2013 the local community sought support from Council to secure the Constable Hyde Memorial Garden as community land, following the intention of the State Government to dispose of the land on the open market.

Council is in the process of acquiring Constable Hyde Memorial Garden, and seeks to engage with the community to determine the future use of this open space.

What is there now?

This open space is located on the corner of Kensington Road and Tusmore Avenue

What is there now?

This open space is located on the corner of Kensington Road and Tusmore Avenue, Leabrook. Neighbouring the Garden is a shopping complex, the Regal Theatre, a medical centre and residential properties. Well-patronised bus stops are also located on the northern and western sides of the Garden.

The existing use of the Garden consists of grassed open space (Space 1 as per the image below); a plaza area with paving and raised garden beds (Space 2); and a carpark (Space 3).

What does Council want to know?

Council seeks your input on a potential upgrade of the Garden, which could include a new playground, and the elements that you prefer for this open space.

This community engagement closes at 5 pm Thursday 31 August.

More detail on the playground

One of the key areas that Council is seeking community input on is a playground. There was previously a playground located in Space 1 and, if the community advise that a playground is a desirable element for the Garden, a new playground will be installed.
