There is an opportunity to create a vibrant community space at this location and Council seeks your ideas in developing a Master Plan.
The Conyngham Street Depot is currently designated 'Operational Land'. It complements the Glynburn Road Depot by allowing for the storage and handling of materials.

The Conyngham Street Depot is currently designated 'Operational Land'. It complements the Glynburn Road Depot by allowing for the storage and handling of materials.
There is an opportunity for the community to use part of this land as well as continuing its current use as Depot.
Council seeks to explore this opportunity with the community, to ask for ideas, and to develop a Master Plan for the site.
To start the conversation, initial concepts are presented below. Please give your feedback on these initial concepts and/or provide further suggestions and ideas.
What is a Master Plan?
Sometimes the development of a site takes time (over many years).
A Master Plan records the vision for the site and is a guide to ensure that its long-term development is done in line with the community's original vision.
What are some initial ideas?
Part of the site may continue to be used as an operating Depot for the storage of materials. The rest of the site could include:
- A new Men's Shed with a bigger workshop, undercover storage space, a painting shed, a shared kitchen, dining facilities and an outdoor barbecue area and two nearby toilets.
- The driveway is designed for the convenient drop off of materials and participants.
- A Community Garden with nine raised planter boxes and a garden shed.
- The relocation of the City of Burnside Biodiversity and Conservation Nursery to this site.
Other features of the proposed Master Plan include:
- Keeping the Depot operations at the rear with the Nursery and community facilities at the front of the site to ensure safety for all users.
- This separation allows space for trucks to perform large turning circles.
- A tree-lined boundary and landscaping adjoining residential properties. Depot vehicles will drive directly along the north boundary next to the service station but will be kept away from the south and east borders.
- Eight new car parks with trees and landscaping. This removes the present grassed open space area but the redeveloped area could include trees, soft landscaping and water sensitive design.
The proposed Master Plan presents the opportunity to redevelop an underutilised site while achieving significant community benefits.
A vibrant community setting can be created to combine a variety of educational and intergenerational opportunities and social inclusion programs.
The City of Burnside's Long Term Financial Plan includes $850,000 over three years for the redevelopment of the Conyngham Street Depot.
The Men's Shed
Reforms anticipated to take effect in July 2018 will change how the Commonwealth funds aged care services.
As a result, Council will assess alternative ways to deliver its aged care services, including the Men's Shed program.
At this stage, Council is not seeking feedback on the future of the Men's Shed program and no decision has been made to relocate the Program. Instead, we would like your feedback on the suitability of the Conyngham Street Depot site for a Men's Shed and your thoughts on the layout and features shown in the concept plan below.
