Tusmore Wading Pool
Consultation has concluded
** UPDATE 19 JULY 2022 **
New satellite imagery shows the construction of the site - before and after.
** UPDATE 15 MARCH 2022 **
The Tusmore Wading Pool is now open. With $500K in financial support through the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the City of Burnside is excited to reopen this much-loved facility. The redeveloped wading pool will continue to be a favourite destination for many people across Adelaide. Thank you for your patience during the construction.

** UPDATE 3 MARCH 2022 **
The pool is not yet open due to a shipping delay with water play items.
Unfortunately it was announced in our community newsletter that the pool was open - at the time that the newsletter was finalised, and had gone to print, the pool was on track to open in the first week of March.
We will keep you up to date on this page and on social media and can't wait for the pool to open!
** UPDATE 1 February 2022 **
We are extremely excited to launch this upgraded venue within the next six weeks, we know you have all been aching to return and it won't be long now. While some of the recent rainfall caused some delays, works are now running as planned. Keep a close eye on this space as we reach the final stages!
** UPDATE 10 January 2022 **
Construction is expected to be completed in February 2022. Time will then be needed to commission the pool to prepare it for community use. A reopening date is to be advised.
** UPDATE 15 November 2021 **
Construction of the new wading pool is well underway. Early works of the construction phase included the demolition of the pool and the plant machinery sheds. Shortly after this, the new storm water infrastructure at the pool level was installed. Concrete for the new pool and the retaining seating walls has since been poured. The frame and cladding for the new plant shed has been constructed, and electrical works are now occurring.
Access through the park is being maintained as much as possible. On occasion, access will be closed for safety reasons, primarily when large trucks are required to access the site.
**UPDATE August 2021 - Construction commences**
Construction is underway!
This project is made possible through $500k funding from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure fund.
** UPDATE 20 July 2021 **
Development Approval was granted for this project in July 2021.
Outside Ideas have been appointed as the contractor for the construction phase of the project. Outside Ideas are a South Australian company who have significant experience on large scale projects including Brighton Oval, the Mitcham Library and Brownhill Creek redevelopment, and Henley Square.
Works will commence on site in August 2021.
** UPDATE - Consultation results **
The community voted on which of the four design options they preferred and Option 2 (the full wading pool with a ‘creek’ section) secured the most votes. On 28 January 2021 Council endorsed Option 2 as the preferred design.
During the consultation period, some residents raised concerns about the introduction of fencing around the pool. On 23 March 2021 Council endorsed a reduced size fence with a section of panels that can be removed when the wading pool is not in use.
Councils architects have updated the plans (see the design in the Document Library to right of screen) and a Development Application for the upgrade has been lodged. This is currently in the public notification stage, so there are signs in Tusmore Park.
Construction is proposed for early in the 2021/22 financial year.
November 2020 consultation process
The Tusmore Park wading pool has been popular with families, particularly those with toddlers, for many years.
However the infrastructure is ageing and is now due for replacement.
In early 2020 Council sought feedback from the community on the future of this space. The community gave strong support for retaining a water play feature, and gave some great suggestions on additional features that could be included.
Based on this feedback, four (4) concept designs have been developed, and Council is now seeking community input to help decide what happens next.
Concept images of the four designs are below to help you to vote on which one you prefer. You can also view more detailed designs and more design elements in the Documents Library in the menu to the right of the screen.
What happens next?
Based on the feedback from this survey, the option preferred by the community will be presented to Council for review at a Council Meeting in early 2021.
It is expected that once a decision is made on the preferred option, a detailed design will be completed with construction expected to commence in mid-late 2021.
Consultation for this engagement is open until 5 pm Thursday 31 December 2020.
What are the options?
Option 1
A new wading pool similar to what is currently in place; with three water play items. Estimated cost is $1.4m
Option 2
A new wading pool similar to what is currently in place; with three water play items and an additional creek-style water play area. Estimated cost is $1.7m.
Option 3
A zero-depth (splash pad only – no pool) water play area; with eight water play items. Estimated cost is $1.6m.
Option 4
A combination wading pool / splash pad facility; with four water play items. Estimated cost $1.5m.
More detail on each option, and the landscape and water feature idea, can be found in the Documents Library in the menu above.
