Biofilters
Also known as biofiltration systems, bioretention systems and rain gardens, are excavated basins or trenches that are filled with porous filter media and planted with vegetation to remove pollutants from water. They use natural and physical processes to treat stormwater. The water will then be stored in an underground aquifer for later recovery and use, such as for irrigation.
Berm
Any level strip of ground at the summit or sides, or along the base, of a slope.
Swale
A low place in a tract of land, usually moister and often having ranker vegetation than the adjacent higher land.
