Consultation has concluded

The City of Burnside is reviewing its Strategic Community Plan to ensure that it remains relevant to, and guides the City toward, a future that is reflective of the community’s collective aspirations.

Life is changing at a rapid pace

Technology continues to challenge ‘our normal’ and means that in the future our children will be doing jobs that haven’t yet been identified.

Driverless cars are a reality and our telephones are no longer connected to the wall and indeed are now clocks, street directories, encyclopedias, cameras, credit/debit cards, health monitors, radios, libraries and universal communication devices and the list goes on.

Combine this with challenges to the environment, notably climate change, global economic uncertainty, a changing and ageing population and we begin to realise that our forward plans become increasingly important.

In light of these, and other changing circumstances specific to Burnside, the City of Burnside is reviewing its Strategic Community Plan, Be the Future of Burnside our Strategic Community Plan 2016 - 2016, to ensure that it remains relevant to, and guides the City toward, a future that is reflective of the community’s collective aspirations.

In considering this review the Council is conscious of the need to understand where we have come from, what is important to Burnside, and what has provided the foundation that will now guide the direction of the Council and the City going forward.

Over time Council will build upon this information to deliver a city that continues to respect and retain its cultural and physical heritage while evolving in a manner that meet the needs and expectations of our modern community in an ever-changing world.

The Council is seeking input from the community into this plan.

Is our vision right?

Traditional, established and renowned for its heritage and character, green leafy streets, and open spaces; Burnside is an urban oasis.

It is a desired locality for its accessibility, healthy lifestyle, natural environment, quality schools and shopping.

It has a collaborative, diverse and accepting community, that together with Council, works towards building upon Burnside’s historic and traditional foundations to deliver a contemporary City resplendent of its past.

Are the Strategic Directions appropriate?

1. Our integrated urban form and living spaces
2. Our protected and valued environment
3. Our diverse, supportive, happy and healthy people
4. Our leading, inclusive and connected Council

Is there anything missing?

The Council is seeking input from the community into this plan to shape the future of our City. Let us know your thoughts.

City of Burnside’s long term strategic community plan, 'Be the Future of Burnside 2026', was adopted on 22 November 2016.

To view the Plan please see the Document Library (above right).

In 2026, our community will be defined by the statement:

Established and renowned for its heritage and character, green leafy streets and open spaces, Burnside is an urban oasis.

It has a collaborative, diverse and accepting community, that together with Council, works towards building upon Burnside's historic and traditional foundations to deliver a progressive and contemporary City cognisant of its past.

    How this Plan was prepared

This review of the Strategic Community Plan has involved research on the City trends, forecast demographics, alignment to the South Australian Strategic Plan and input from the community, Elected Members of Burnside and staff.

The success of this plan is the responsibility of the whole community and you are encouraged to actively participate in achieving a place and city that we will all be proud of.

For Council, areas identified within the Plan will inform and provide direction for the Burnside Corporate Plan which in turn will inform key strategic planning documents for Council. The Plan will guide the annual business plan and budget process.
