Beaumont Common Management Plan

Council seeks to partner with the community to create a management plan to provide direction for the future of the Beaumont Common.

Background

Beaumont Common is regarded as one of the most important biodiversity sites in Burnside. The Grey Box, native to the Common, is listed as a Nationally Threatened Plant Community under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999; and the rare Chequered Copper Butterfly was rediscovered on the site in late 2022.

Council maintains and manages Beaumont Common to provide the community with amenity and recreational opportunities, while also balancing environmental priorities. Council’s current work at Beaumont Common includes site conservation, tree management, mowing and trimming the lawns. Biodiversity at the site is also carefully managed.

In July 2022, Council resolved to develop a Beaumont Common Management Plan in close consultation with the community.

The Management Plan will provide clear instructions on how the Common will be managed.

What is the purpose of this letter?

Council seeks your feedback and opinions on the Beaumont Common. This information will form the basis of discussions on how the community currently uses the Common, what are the community’s aspirations for the future of the area, and Council and the community working together to develop a management plan.

What happens next?

A new management plan for Beaumont Common is being developed and Council wants your input.

This is a community-led planning process and we encourage you to join the working group to be involved in this exciting development.

Based on the feedback from this survey and the community workshops, a new draft management plan will be prepared.

This draft document will be reviewed by Council and community feedback will be sought on the draft plan in mid-late 2023.
