Consultation has concluded

The City of Burnside is committed to the principle of open and accountable government and encourages community participation in the business of Council.

The City of Burnside has a number of Council policies that inform and guide the manner in which the Administration undertakes Council business. These policies are reviewed and presented to Council for endorsement to ensure that they reflect the current legislative, financial and political environment.

A draft Code of Practice - Meetings and Documents - Access and Procedures Policy was circulated to Elected Members for engagement. We received their feedback and the Code has been amended accordingly.

The policy

Section 92 of the Local Government Act requires Council to have a Code of Practice for Access to Meetings and Documents.

This Code ensures that Council, the Elected Body and the community can refer to one document that clearly details the manner in which Council conducts Council meetings including how petitions and deputations are managed. This Code also details access procedures to meetings and documents.

The amendments to the Code primarily relate to the following matters:

  • Informal gatherings
  • Recording of meetings
  • Minutes
  • Absences of Meeting Members
  • Chamber conduct
  • Deputations
  • Petitions
  • Motions on Notice
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Appointment of Acting Presiding Member

This Policy was endorsed for public consultation by Council on 25 July 2017.
