Council resolved:

That Council:

1. Endorses the Burnside 2030 Strategic Community Plan and the Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2024/2028. 

2. Recommends consideration that implementation of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2024/2028 be referred to the next meeting of the CEO Review Committee for the CEO KPIs.

The draft 2023-2030 Strategic Community Plan

The draft 2023-2030 Strategic Community Plan outlines the goals and priorities that Council will work towards over the next several years.

The community, natural environment, local culture and heritage will be at the forefront of our decisions as we responsibly manage Council’s resources while sustaining the quality of our services, infrastructure and places, now and for future generations.

Council will continue to communicate and engage with our community to ensure they are informed and able to participate in important decisions in meaningful ways. We will celebrate the successes of our community and promote opportunities for people to be empowered to participate in Burnside life.

Improvement and Innovation

Council’s capable, motivated and safe workforce will continuously pursue improvement and new ways to achieve outstanding performance and reputation, while adapting our services, places and facilities to meet emerging trends, technology and our community’s evolving needs.

Council will be open, accountable, transparent and reliable in our decisions, service provision and project delivery. We will foster a culture of evidence-based, risk-aware decision making.

  • Conduct innovative trials and seek to improve kerbside organics, hard waste and recycling in public spaces
  • Council and community transition to electric vehicles
  • Support community emissions reduction
  • Manage water for best value to the environment and community, recognising multiple sources of water

Corporate Action
Leading through action, engagement and advocacy
  • Push the boundary of Council emissions reduction
  • Expand sustainable and circular procurement
  • Encourage environmental sustainability and climate change resilience through advocacy, initiatives and education

Creating and maintaining healthy habitats and tree canopy for people and wildlife
