Magill Village Celebration

Join us to celebrate the new Magill Village precinct - Magill Rd (between Pepper St and St Bernards Rd).

Showcasing our local businesses, Magill Village is the place to be as the street comes alive with food, fun and entertainment.

Take part in the Treasure Hunt along Magill Rd, listen to the live music of Georgia Germein, watch the roving performers, and enjoy a coffee or one of the many dining experiences from local businesses.

Pepper Street Art Centre will feature a Caricature artist Allan Addams, parrot mobile making with Fiona, weaving demonstration with Wilma, as well as an artist demonstration with Robin Hicks in the exhibition space as part of the 100 years of Life Drawing.

The first 250 attendees to visit the Magill Sunrise Rotary Club marquee will receive a $10 voucher to spend at participating businesses.

The Magill Village Partnership is a collaboration between the Campbelltown City Council and City of Burnside.

This project was funded by the Australian Government with $2 million from the Federal ‘Community Development Grant Programme’ and $5.75 million from the State ‘Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.’

Background
The Magill Village Project is a collaboration between the City of Burnside and Campbelltown City Council to redevelop and renew the Magill Village precinct, providing larger, greener spaces for residents and visitors with widened footpaths, bike lanes and increased public seating.

Throughout 2022 the City of Burnside and Campbelltown City Council worked together to completely revitalise the Magill Village precinct and make the area a more attractive place to shop, stay and visit.

The redevelopment has delivered a safer and more accessible streetscape with additional pedestrian crossings, improved cycling lanes, a permanent 40k m/h speed limit through the Village heart, and new footpaths compliant with disability access requirements. Enhancements were also made to the Magill and Penfold Roads intersection to improve pedestrian, cyclist and driver safety. Overall, the number of restricted on-street parking spots will be reduced and 22 permanent parking pays will be installed with none of the current clearway restrictions.

New paving, landscaping, public art, bespoke street furniture and an innovative road paving treatment all combine to create a unique and inviting identity for the precinct, along with opportunities for vibrant street life, outdoor dining and pop-up stalls.

Environmental sustainability initiatives included the planting of 68 new trees, water sensitive urban design features to capture stormwater, electric vehicle charging stations, and planted traffic islands.

On 3 December 2022 Council was excited to unveil the completed works, with the revitalised precinct now providing a vastly improved experience for visitors, shoppers and residents. This project was funded by the Australian Government with $2 million from the Federal ‘Community Development Grant Program’ and $5.75 million from the State ‘Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program’.

Multiple public verge plants on Magill Road have been stolen over the past weeks. These plants were recently installed as part of the Magill Village Project, with a variety of species planted to re-invigorate the streetscape, provide shade cover as well as habitat for local fauna.

If you have any information which can assist Council in this matter, please call the City of Burnside on 8366 4200.

Works are nearing completion on the Magill Village Project.

Landscaping is well underway and it is expected that the majority of road works will be completed by the end of September 2022. Some construction work will still continue into October and potentially November such as:

    • remaining soft landscaping.
    • edging garden beds.
    • installing bus shelters, bike racks, bins, an EV charger, fencing in some locations and a screen for the transformer located adjacent Pepper Street.

Other locations of work that will be underway after September include those detailed in the images below (NB that all work is completed on Magill Road between Rosedale Place and Carey Street).

On Magill Road between Carey Street and Penfold Road/St Bernard Road, work will continue in seven locations:

    1. New shopping centre signage to be installed.
    2. Soil retaining work.
    3. Complete driveway crossover.
    4. Work on the verge and footpath.
    5. Complete the western access area at Pepper Street Art Centre.
    6. Landscaping and paving to complete the Pepper Street Art Centre frontage.
    7. Construction of additional customer car parks behind Hines Hardware.

On Magill Road between Penfold Road/St Bernard Road and Park Street, work will continue in three further locations:

    1. Footpath paving on the Tower Hotel corner.
    2. Paving and constructing retaining walls on the Magill Primary School corner.
    3. Completing two driveway crossovers opposite Park Street.

    ** UPDATE 3 August 2022 **

SA Water have completed their emergency remedial works on Magill Road. The road is now re-opened to traffic. SA Water will return to Magill Road to complete some “tidy up” work but the disruptions are not expected to be as significant as the initial repair works.

    ***

    2 August 2022

SA Water have closed westbound lanes on Magill Road between Penfold Road and Rowland Road to undertake sewer main repairs. Eastbound lanes remain open with speed restrictions in place.

The duration for the completion of these SA Water works is unknown at this stage, therefore there is the potential that these works could impact the construction schedule of the Magill Village Project as Council's construction team have been requested to cease work until the sewer main has been repaired.

It is important to note that the cause of these problems is nothing to do with the Magill Village Project and is entirely related to SA Water’s infrastructure.

For further enquiries on these works, please contact SA Water on 1300 729 283 or email customercare@sawater.com.au

Ahead of construction of the Magill Village Project, the City of Burnside and Campbelltown City Council installed 55 parking sensors on Magill Road in August 2021. These sensors allow both Councils to gather data on the number of vehicles parking within the Magill Village precinct and how long for, with the data to be used when considering the potential impacts of works throughout 2022.

The data will also be used to understand the current demand for on-street parking, so that future parking arrangements can meet demand.
