Council is reviewing playgrounds within our City to align them with future community needs.

The opportunity

Council's Playground Replacement Action Plan 2014 - 2024 has identified a number of playgrounds within our City to be reviewed to consider their future use and the community needs for these spaces.

To assist in the long term planning for the redevelopment of our playgrounds, Council is seeking your advice on this playground.

You opinion on whether the existing equipment should be replaced, or if the playground is removed and the space is landscaped, will guide the future management of this location.

About the playground

This playground is located on the corner of Carunta Street and Wanbrow Ave, Wattle Park.

The existing play equipment consists of a triple swing set, of which only one swing is still in working order, on pine chip mulch.

If the playground is replaced

Council seeks your opinion on the features you would like in the playground if it is replaced. These include equipment for:

  • swinging
  • natural play
  • rocking
  • sliding
  • spinning
  • balancing
  • climbing
  • interactive elements
  • themed play
  • cubbies.

Your responses to this survey will guide Council on planning for the future of the playground.

    In September and October 2016 Council sought community advice and opinion on the long term planning of this playground.

    Council sought community feedback on whether the existing equipment should be replaced, or if the playground should be removed and the space landscaped.

    The responses to the survey have guided Council on the redevelopment of the playground located in Gardiner Reserve, Wattle Park.

    Potential features

    The majority of responses requested the existing playground equipment be replaced with new equipment.

    The play features the respondents would most like included are:

    • swinging
    • sliding
    • climbing
    • balancing
    • natural play.

    What happens next?

    In line with Council's Playground Replacement Action Plan 2014-2024 this playground has been reviewed; community needs and the future use considered.

    The play equipment will be removed this financial year and, budget permitting, is a high priority for replacement in the new financial year.
