Quondong Avenue in Kensington Gardens takes its name from the quandong, a native Australian tree found across the central deserts and southern regions of Australia.

Its bright red fruit, often called a native peach, has long been used as a bush food and is often used as an ingredient in jams and desserts.

Quondong Avenue is one of several nearby streets named after Australian trees, including Brigalow Avenue, Coolibah Avenue and Myall Avenue. Each of the streets are located near Kensington Gardens Reserve/Kensington Wama, which was dedicated as a permanent recreation space in 1909, around the same time that the nearby streets were subdivided.
