Open Space Requests

***Update 30 April 2026***

Despite only launching in early June 2025, a total of 60 people contributed 73 ideas for the 2025 round of Community Open Space Requests. The suggestions ranged across 30 separate open spaces within the City, as well as several streets.

Review of suggestions

Each suggestion was reviewed by staff and then provided to Council Members for consideration. Council Members elected a number of the submissions for consideration in future budget discussions.

There were 18 submissions (including some double-ups from different members of the community) which have recently been completed, or are scheduled in 2025/26 or 2026/27 (subject to community consultation and formal Council approval of the 2026/27 Annual Business Plan and Budget), including:

Completed projects:

Bin / doggie dunnie, Hallett Rd entrance to Andrew’s Walk – doggie dunnie installed on nearby Kurrajong Ave in late 2025, near regular landfill bin (noting that an existing landfill bin exists on the opposite side of Hallett Rd).
Pickleball line marking, Langman Reserve – completed in late 2025. See photos on the right hand side of this page.
1-2 high logs for seating, Conyngham Street Dog Park – 2 benches added to eastern fence in 2026 (drainage infrastructure on western side makes this location difficult).
Bench on western fence of All Dog Park, Conyngham Street Dog Park – 2 benches under the shelter have been replaced with a model with a back in 2026. See photos on the right hand side of page.

Scheduled in 2025/26 or 2026/27:

  • BBQ, Bell Yett Reserve – planned for construction in 2026/27 as part of Bell Yett Reserve Master Plan implementation.
  • Drinking fountain for humans and dogs, Bell Yett Reserve – planned for construction in 2026/27 as part of Bell Yett Reserve Master Plan implementation.
  • Picnic tables, Bell Yett Reserve - planned for construction in 2026/27 as part of Bell Yett Reserve Master Plan implementation.
  • Shade / shelter, Bell Yett Reserve - planned for construction in 2026/27 as part of Bell Yett Reserve Master Plan implementation.
  • Adventure playground, Kensington Wama / Kensington Gardens Reserve – playground is being redeveloped from June to September 2026, following extensive co-design process with community.
  • Drinking fountain, Branson Reserve – planned for construction in 2026/27.
  • Pickleball line marking, Mellor Reserve – planned for 2026/27.
  • Public toilet, Glenside Basin – feasibility study and community consultation planned for 2026/27.
  • Sports library, Symons & Symons Reserve – planned for installation in 2025/26.

Only a small number of suggestions were deemed to not be feasible, due to the existing space limitations, budget, or incompatibility with Council’s strategies / policies, while some other suggestions were not endorsed by Council for inclusion in the draft 2026/27 Annual Business Plan and Budget (due for community consultation 22 April to 21 May 2026).

The 2026 round of Community Open Space Requests is now open, and ideas can be submitted until December 2026:

All suggestions will be reviewed by Council each December and considered as part of the Annual Business Plan and Budget cycle, to see if they can be funded the following financial year. The map will refresh each January.
